Choosing the Right Types of Diets

Losing weight is commonplace for many people around the world to improve health and appearance. To reduce excess fat in the body, various diets are widely available. Do not be confused about choosing an existing diet, adjust to your body’s needs and abilities.

Dukan Diet

This diet emphasizes high protein diet, low in carbohydrates and low in fat. Dukan diet is designed to make you not feel hungry. You can choose 100 types of food (72 from animal sources, 28 from vegetable sources) and are allowed to eat as much as you want as long as they come from 100 types of food. This diet promises a weight loss of 3 kg to 4.5 kg in the first five days.

But you must know, the Dukan diet also has side effects. Weight loss is mostly due to loss of body fluids and muscle mass. You can experience fatigue, lack of nutrition, constipation, bad breath, dry mouth, and kidney and liver damage if done continuously.

5: 2 Diet

5: 2 diet is done by eating normally for five days then fasting for two days in a week. In addition to losing weight, this diet is claimed to prolong life, improve cognitive function, and protect the brain from conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. This diet also protects the body from various diseases.

According to a study, 5: 2 diet is thought to help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes by increasing insulin sensitivity. While other studies reveal, 5: 2 diet is thought to help reduce the risk of cancer associated with obesity and breast cancer. However, both studies still need evidence and further study.

Within two days of fasting, you may feel dizzy, irritable, headache, and difficult to concentrate. Other side effects of these diets include insomnia, bad breath, dehydration, and daytime sleepiness.

Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet only allows you to eat natural foods like cavemen in prehistoric times. The food in question is lean meat, eggs under 6 weeks, fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, seeds, and vegetable oils. While foods that should be avoided are dairy products, cereal seeds, processed foods and beverages, salt, sugar, sweet potatoes, and potatoes.

The Paleo diet does prevent you from sugar, salt and processed foods. But on the other hand, you can get bored quickly because eating feels tasteless, spending more money because food must be organic, not even enough carbohydrate and calcium intake. Moreover, there is no accurate record of how the diet of prehistoric humans and the lack of scientific evidence related to these dietary health claims.

Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet loses weight by reducing or not consuming simple carbohydrates at all but may consume lots of protein and fat. In theory, when you are starving because of lack of carbohydrates, the body will start to burn fat to get energy. And like many other diets, this diet can also cause bad breath, dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, nausea, constipation due to lack of carbohydrates and potentially lack of fiber, to increase the risk of heart disease.

Before you try the various diets above, make sure you consult first with a trusted doctor or nutritionist. If you carelessly adopt a diet, it can endanger the condition and health of the body.
