7 Effective Ways to Treat Dry Skin

Have you ever experienced dry skin until cracked? It is certainly very disturbing appearance and confidence, right? Moreover, the appearance of dry skin can be accompanied by itching, redness and roughness on the surface. How is dry skin care done? Consider the following explanation.

The causes of dry skin can be due to various things, including weather, heat, sun exposure, too long bathing habits, irritating soap and detergents. Various disease conditions can also cause dry skin, namely eczema ( Atopic Dermatitis ) and psoriasis. In old age, living in a dry environment or having low humidity can also increase the risk of dry skin.

Dry Skin Care Tips

Regardless of the cause, dry skin must be treated. To treat dry skin, you can do the following things.

1. Avoid bathing with too hot water

Hot water can quickly reduce oil in the skin which acts as a natural moisturizer. Bathing with warm water is a wiser choice. Even so, you are also not advised to take a long bath when using warm water, limit it to only 5-10 minutes. After you have finished bathing, pat the towel on the body and do not let the skin get too dry. After that, try applying a body moisturizer.

2. Use aroma-free cleansers and fresheners

If you experience dry skin problems, use soap and skin care products that are free of aroma, alcohol, or deodorant and antibacterial additives. This is because the chemical content in the product can make the skin damaged and irritated, so the skin becomes dry. Choose soft soap (mild soap) which has been added with oil and fat.

3. Use sunscreen and moisturizer

As one of the dry skin treatments, it is recommended to use a sunscreen that contains a minimum of SPF 15. In addition, you are also advised to always use moisturizers. Try to choose moisturizers that contain ceramide ingredients that are moisturizing and relieving dry skin and hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and urea which help the skin maintain water. The content of lanolin and petroleum jelly can also help maintain water that was previously absorbed by the skin while bathing.

4. Dry skin care at night

Skin care is not only needed during the day, but also at night when you sleep. Before going to bed, you should clean your face from the rest of the cosmetics and other dirt so as not to cause acne. Gently wash your face using soft soap and avoid rubbing it roughly or using scrub soap. To clean the remaining makeup, you can use an oil-based makeup remover that can remove even waterproof mascara without attracting and irritating the surrounding skin. Then, you can apply moisturizer to the skin, and thicker than usual. The length of night sleep also provides a longer time for moisturizers to penetrate the skin more.

5. Protect the skin from cold air

Cold air can reduce skin moisture and eventually make the skin dry. When the weather is cold, make sure you always use moisturizer for the skin and try to protect the body from cold temperatures. If needed, you can use an air conditioner to keep the air moist so that it does not aggravate dry skin.

6. Exfoliation of dry skin

Exfoliation of dry skin will remove dead skin. That way, moisturizers can absorb better. Exfoliate just once a week, because exfoliating too often can damage the skin and cause dry skin. When exfoliating, avoid fruit scrubs that tend to be rough. Instead, try a scrub that contains the papain enzyme. Scrubs that contain these ingredients tend to be soft and safe to use for peeling.

7. Nourish the skin from the inside

There are several foods that are known to contain essential nutrients for maintaining healthy skin, including foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. Foods rich in antioxidants can minimize damage from toxins and help the body make healthy cells. Some foods that contribute to healthy skin include blueberries, tomatoes, carrots, peas, and nuts. Whereas foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, can support healthy skin and make skin brighter. Don’t forget, drink water to meet your fluid intake every day and prevent dehydration.

Don’t let dry skin problems without treatment. Perform dry skin care regularly in the above ways so that the skin remains healthy and beautiful, and to avoid you from additional skin problems. Consult your doctor if your dry skin has redness, itching that interferes with sleep, open sores or infection, or exfoliates in a large area.
